Alice Mae White

Alice Mae Waddell White of Oklahoma City passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016 surrounded by her husband and children in her home. She was born February 29, 1924 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Ethel Braker Waddell and Sidney LaRue Waddell, Sr. When she was sixteen, the family moved to Maryland where she graduated from Mt. Ranier High School in 1941. An Oklahoman at heart, Alice moved back to Oklahoma City in 1945 where she met Jack White and began attending Wesley United Methodist Church. They were married February 26, 1947 and have three children, Ross, Jacqueline, and Kathryn. She also became a member of Wesley and became active in all aspects of church life. If Alice was not at home, she was at church. She served on the Administrative Board for many years as well as various committees. She is a charter member of the 3 C's Sunday School Class; taught Elementary I Sunday School Class for 28 years and the 3 C's Sunday School Class for many years; Past President of Sorelle and was a faithful member as long as she was able to attend. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women where she served as President 6 times and held other offices throughout the years. For 50 years she attended the Cooperative Schools of Mission and taught what she learned to her unit. From the time Mobile Meals began at Wesley, Alice lovingly served meals until she became physically unable to do so. Some other activities were VBS, after school programs, MYF, and UMYF. She financially supported youth campers and students on mission trips. In the community Alice was active in the PTA, a Garden Club, OptiMrs. (past President), Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, Campfire Girls, and Brownie Scouts. Alice's hobbies were playing the piano, dancing, fishing, and travelling. She was active in Square Dance clubs. Alice enjoyed fishing in South America in the Amazon Jungle and in Northern Saskatchewan in the Churchill River. She had a love for history and geography and was fortunate enough to be able to bring that history to life in many near and far away places on every continent and many of the world's islands. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother S. L. Waddell, Jr. sisters Gladys Hinnen, Mildred Wineberger, Mary Mason; son-in-law Cowley Carl Banks, Jr.; grandson William Treavor White, and granddaughter Christie White Hotze. Alice is survived by her husband Jack White of the home; brother Wesley Waddell of Arkansas; sister Bonnie Lewis and husband John of Maryland; son Ross White and wife Martha of Branson, MO; daughter Jacqueline Banks of Lindsay, OK; daughter Kathy Lantz and husband Earl of Eureka Springs, AR. Grandchildren: Becky White Morgan of Tennessee, Michael Mize and wife Angie of Missouri, Alex White and wife Ashley of Missouri; Thomas Lewis and wife Tiffiny of Oklahoma; Jennifer Lyn Waldoch of Utah, Calvin Bartlett, Sunny Lantz Smith and husband Dan, and Wil Lantz, all of Oklahoma. 16 Great-Grandchildren, and 4 Great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Wesley United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 10am on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church.
