Aline Jewel Garrett (Svejkovsky), 99, died Friday, September 22, 2023, at her home in Oklahoma City.
Aline was born on June 26, 1924, in Yukon, Oklahoma, to Frank A. and Allie Swanda Svejkovsky. She was baptized at the First Christian Church of Yukon in 1935. Aline graduated from Yukon High School in 1942, where she was involved in the performing arts as a talented violinist, flautist, and vocalist. After graduation, she attended Hill’s Business School and was employed at First National Bank as a teller.
Aline married Richard William Garrett on December 13, 1945, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, upon his return from serving in World War II’s Pacific Theatre. Richard and Aline established their home in Oklahoma City and their marriage was blessed with three sons, to whom Aline dedicated her life. Aline remained active in the Pleasant Hills School PTA and establishment of a kindergarten program, and she was active in the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. In addition to her devotion as a mother, Aline was a brilliant gardener and excelled in the decorative arts, particularly porcelain painting. She contributed her talents to leading local porcelain art clubs in the Oklahoma City area, and she was a member of the World China Painting Organization. Above all, she loved her children and grandchildren, and will be remembered for her wisdom, grace, and hospitality.
Aline is preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard. She is survived by sons Richard Steven Garrett (Paula), William Patrick Garrett (Sandy), and David Michael Garrett (Pamela); grandchildren Stephanie Peevy (Sam), Cherie Martin (Tony), Billy Garrett (Alison), Patrick Garrett, Christin Hoffman (Tony), Elizabeth Germann (Kevin), and Micah Garrett (Kelly); and eighteen great-grandchildren. Her family wants to kindly thank Donna Ware and Denise Marinello for the wonderful care given to Aline in her later years.
Visitation will be available both Sunday, September 24, and Monday, September 25, from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM at Smith & Kernke Funeral Homes. Graveside service will follow on Tuesday, September 26, at 10:30 AM at the Memorial Park Cemetery. A wake will be held at Aline’s home following the graveside service.
