Hart of Naples, FL and Barbara L. Bane of Edmond, OK ; grandchildren John Gregor and Carolyn Couey; great grandchildren Jason and Reese Couey; and brother Edward Heiden. Also many friends and relatives including the Heiden, Klawon, Hibbler, DeBlock, and Dennert families. Alma lived a happy, long, and active life. She was born on July 4, 1916, in a small rural town in Michigan to a German farm family. She was the 3rd eldest in a family of seven children which included three sisters and four brothers. As a young girl she helped on the farm. As she grew older, she yearned for the excitement of city life. She had a Cinderella dream; so as a young lady she moved to Detroit, found a job, and married the love of her life, her beloved Robert, in 1939. She spent many happily married years in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter-in-law, and grandmother. She was employed as a clerical supervisor (Reliance Insurance Company) during much of her adult life. She enjoyed spending time with family and entertaining friends. She loved God and was a longtime member of the Grosse Pointe Congregational Church. She loved to garden, travel, and make new friends. She also enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, and investing. Words used to describe Alma include SWEET, soft spoken, feisty, strong, and quietly intelligent. During her senior years, Alma waged a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Alma brought joy and happiness to many and will be missed by those who blessed her life. If she had a voice now, she would say "I love you a bushel and a peck; love me, miss me, but dry your eyes, and do not mourn for me too long."
The family wants to especially thank the many health care professionals, her Brookdale Memory Care family, and Centennial Hospice who assisted her during her final years of life. In lieu of flowers, contributions (especially those of time) may be made to the local charity or senior center of your choice or to the Alzheimer's Association and their caregiver support groups. A visitation will be held at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home in Edmond, OK. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Detroit, MI.
