Andrew (Drew) J. Shields passed away on Monday, February 16 after a long illness. Drew was born on May 6, 1945 in Tulsa to Don and Chan Shields. He lived most of his life in Tulsa and Oklahoma City but lived for the past three years in Las Vegas, NV. Drew will be remembered by all who knew him as larger than life. He had a big personality and an even bigger heart. His generosity touched the lives of many people. Drew was a primary donor of Access Sports, a charity organization in Oklahoma that provides sports activities and opportunities for disadvantaged youth. He was a loyal friend, boss and brother. He considered his customers family. Drew graduated from Central High in Tulsa and attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City and the University of Oklahoma. He served six years in the United States Marine Corp. Drew worked in the oil business in Oklahoma for over 30 years. He founded and served as CEO of Shields Pipe, which was recognized by the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce as one of OKC's fastest growing companies in 2009 and 2012. Drew was a long-time member of Oak Tree Country Club where he was active in golf and co-chaired the Bobby Mercer Cancer Golf Tournament for several years. Drew was preceded in death by his parents Don and Chan Shields and his brother Don. He is survived by his stepson Michael Laubach and grandson Justin Laubach of OKC; brother Doug and his wife Marcia of OKC; brother Rick Shields and his wife Paula of Hollister, MO; sister Kathy Keating and her husband Daniel of Tulsa; and sister Beth Shields of Dallas. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank the skilled and compassionate doctors and nurses who cared for Drew through his recent struggle, and especially thank his loyal and loving caregivers and "extended family" Theresa and Dino Reynosa and Ida Franklin. Services will be held on Friday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N. May Ave. in OKC.
