Anne Wileman Workman

Anne was born on November 15th, 1937 in Oklahoma City to Ben Carmack and Addie Mae Wileman. She passed, surrounded by family and caregivers, in the early morning of November 7th, 2024. Between those bookend events, Anne embraced life with a vivacious nature, known for her warming smile and generous giving spirit. Within periods of her life, she was known as a fierce competitor in the Hunter-Jumper and Five-Gaited classes of Equine sports, an avid golfer, world-traveler and, central to her priorities, a devoted daughter, wife, mother & friend.

Anne loved spending time with friends and acquaintances alike, engaging in many social clubs and functions. In her youth, she attended Camp Waldemar in Texas as a member of the "Comanche Tribe" and rode in the Quadrille. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority at the University of Oklahoma, returning as an alumni advisor in several facets. She graduated from OU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. In her Equestrian accolades, she was a National Champion, showing country-wide and was ranked within the Top Ten riders nationally. As a member of the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club for a large majority of her life, she was active in engaging socially in clubs such as Coterie, Bridge and Mah Jongg.

Anne was an outstanding volunteer and lifelong supporter of the arts through generous gifting and active volunteerism, serving on the Board of Directors for the Allied Arts and later, the Oklahoma Theater Center (Stage Center), nurturing it as a vital part of the art culture in Oklahoma City. Anne received the Governor’s Arts Award in 1979 for her enthusiastic contributions to the arts, a desire that she would foster for the entirety of her life. She dutifully served as President of the Junior League of Oklahoma City, another passion she energetically fulfilled the majority of her life.

In 2015, she was preceded in passing by her husband, Roy Dickson Workman; a man who provided a kindred soul, a fellow explorer and a love of shared adoration. Anne is survived by her brother, Ben C. Wileman II, her son, Randolph Schafer and his wife Kristine, her daughter Deborah Anne Dodd and husband Dane, and daughter Stephanie Workman Abrahamson and husband Carl. Grandchildren include Braden and Bennett Schafer, Morgan & Heidi Dodd, Ethan & Craig Abrahamson, and a stable of nieces, nephews and extended family.
