Barbara C. Johnson was born August 20, 1929, in Keyingham Hull, Yorkshire, England, and passed away January 29, 2015, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She grew up in England with her mother and sister Hilary Jennifer Kirkland where she earned a teaching certificate at Padgate, England. She also served on the St. John's Ambulance Service. She met her husband, Joseph William Johnson, at the USO in London where he played saxophone in the Air Force band. They received permission to marry from the United States Air Force and married March 15, 1952. Barbara earned her Bachelors and Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida and later earned a Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a professor at Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana and later served as Dean of William Carey College. She also was a professor at Pearl River Junior College, Poplarville, Mississippi. She enjoyed reading, growing roses, and her family. She is survived by six children, Karen Thomas, Lee Johnson, Victoria Johnson, Hilary Gipson, Laurie Hutchings and Mark Johnson; eight grandchildren, Elena, John, Hilary, the late Christin, Nola, Stephanie, Jennifer, Michael, and Emily; and four great-grandchildren, Joel, Hannah, Griffin, and Drake. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Hannah Catherine Coggle and Thomas Coggle, her husband Joseph William Johnson and her Nephew David Kirkland. Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2015, at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, OK.
