Barbara Jean Alexander

Barbara Jean Rifford Alexander passed away on December 25, 2016 at the age of 91 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born on February 27, 1925 in Marion County, Kansas to Lloyd and Desi (Mercer) Maltbie. Barbara graduated from El Dorado High School in El Dorado, Kansas. She then moved to Seminole, OK at the age of 17. In 1943 she then moved to San Francisco, CA where she met her first husband George Rifford, Jr. and were married on December 29, 1946. From that union came three children Deborah Lynn, George A. Rifford, III, and Cindy Lou. Barbara and George raised their children in Hays, Kansas until 1974 where they moved to Oklahoma City and spent several years of their life together until the death of her husband George on May 7, 1984. After the death of George, Barbara retired from Rothschild's Department Store in Penn Square Mall. In March 1985, Barbara married Jack Alexander. In 1987 Barbara and Jack moved to Surrey Hills in Yukon, OK where she enjoyed playing golf and bridge with her good friends. Barbara truly enjoyed cooking and baking her famous blueberry pies. Being an avid news watcher, Barbara would follow politics very closely. Barbara sang in the choir at New Covenant Christian Church and was also a member of the board. She loved holidays because it meant that she would be near to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and close friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands George Rifford, Jr. and Jack Alexander; and daughter, Deborah L. Davis. She is survived by her children George Rifford, III (Betty); Cindy Ross (Tom); five grandchildren George A. Rifford, IV (Michelle), Amy Davis, Meggan Shepard (Shawn), Chelcy Carson (Deakon), Jennifer L. Altman (Brock), nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Anita Pullen; a step son, Bobby Alexander (Brenda) and two step granddaughter's Nicole Jobe and Shay Ramirez. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, January 7th at Smith & Kernke N. May Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial contributions to be made to Integris Hospice House (13920 Quailbrook Drive, OKC, OK 73134).
