Barbara Jo Kendall (Spencer), of Oklahoma City, born August 27, 1942, in Chickasha, OK to the late Boyd and Alita Spencer, passed away at age 79 on March 5, 2022. Barbara grew up in Oney, OK, where she played piano and basketball, and graduated from Oney HS. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of the Women's basketball team and where she met her husband Walter, who died in 2018. She later received her Master's in Education from Central State University and went on to teach school and work at Oklahoma City Southwestern University. After returning to public school teaching in elementary and middle school, Barbara retired from Putnam City Schools. Barbara loved racing sailboats and was a fierce competitor and a longtime member of the Oklahoma City Boat Club. She also loved quilting with her friends and was a member of the Central Oklahoma Quilters Guild and the Edmond Quilters Guild. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer for children. Above all, she was our "Babu" and her love for others was deep and wide. She was a great friend and example to many. Barbara is survived by her son Kevin Kendall and wife Kathy; daughter Kathleen Walker and Ed Vaughan; daughter Jenny Kalsu and husband Bob; her brother Joe Spencer and wife Janie; her brother-in-law Kenneth Kendall; and by her close companion Roy Ramirez. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Robert Horn and wife Kallie, Kristina Anderson and husband Travis, Kelsey Kendall, Elizabeth Walker, and McKenzie, Madison, Robert, and Mia Kalsu; four great-grandchildren, Mason, RJ, and Logan Horn, and Berkley, Jackson, and Grayson Anderson, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored. A memorial service for Barbara will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 14 at Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tenaciously Teal.
