Barbara Lynne Hensley

Barbara Lynne Hensley (Cody) was called to the tap dancing "big stage" on the morning of August 11, 2016. The requested performance could not be delayed. She could not be late, and for those who knew her best you understand the difficulty of such criteria. Her performance will include a reunion with many friends and family she has not seen in a very long time. She will eat the most wonderful food and have enough so that she will not have to nibble off her neighbors' plate. She will satisfy her sweet tooth without gaining an ounce, and most of all she'll be able to do what she loved again: Smile, laugh, and dance. Barbara was born February 3rd, in a year we wouldn't dare tell, to Robert Glenn and Edith LaVerle Cody in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She attended Northwest Classen High School and obtained a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston and her masters of liberal arts from Oklahoma City University. She is survived by her husband, Donald, her high school sweetheart whom she married in 1963, and she will continue watching over her children, Leslie (daughter), Matthew (son), Ashley (daughter-in-law), and her six grandchildren (Ryan, Dawson, Joshua, Haley, Cambree, and Kai). She is further survived by her brother, Michael, sister-in-law, Nancy, and sister-in-law, Jenny. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Robert, and her brother, Earl. Barbara taught her children to love Jesus, love life, love laughter, and love each other. She planted those thoughts with her words and nourished them through her actions. As she rests in God's care, the memories of her special love will live on. Her unmistakable laugh and infectious smile will remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Let her warmth and energy full of love and happiness inspire us to celebrate a life well-lived! Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. at Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
