Basil Duane Nance

Basil drew his last breath at home on Friday, May 27, 2016, at the break of dawn, at the age of 81, due to complications with his heart. He was born NE of Chickasha, OK, on his Grandfather Brunt's farm on Dec. 7, 1934, the son of Jim and Thelma Nance. He was reared in the Chickasha area for most of his life and baptized in the Church of Christ at an early age. He worked several years at the Oklahoma National Bank of Chickasha and two banks in Oklahoma City. After several years of banking, he went to nursing school. Basil worked private duty nursing for several years prior to retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Humphrey Persinger, grandparents, JW and Annie Brunt and Albert Nance and Nannie Nance Sumner; aunts, Ruth B. Farley, Edith Orr, Helene Waldron, Corene Black and Hazel Taylor; cousins, Sandra Lightner, Geneva Sue Sumner, Jinnie Ruth Peelman, Jimmy Orr, Rodney Waldron, and Steven Dale Waldron; Mark's parents, Bill and Jean Meade; and his little companions, Winston, Todd, Rose, Greta and Cali. Basil is survived by his partner, Mark Meade; little companions, Travis and Harper; niece, Tami Ford and husband Rick of Chickasha; nephews, Gary Humphrey of OKC, Greg Humphrey of Lawton; brother-in-law, Donnie Persinger of Alex; and many great nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as Mark's sisters and their families, Mary Ann Bomhoff and husband Tom of Yukon, and Barbara Gonzalez and husband Rudy of Dallas. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. both Sunday and Monday at Smith & Kernke on 23rd Street. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home followed by burial at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
