Bernie M. Noack

Bernhardt (Bernie) McCumsey Noack, Jr. was born in Oklahoma City on December 1, 1929 to Bernhardt McCumsey Sr. and Velna Shepard Noack. He entered heaven on November 15, 2024, just shy of 95.

Bernie, the oldest of four children, grew up in Oklahoma City. At the age of 12, he accepted Jesus Christ into his life. This decision shaped him forever. After that, he and his family became active members of Trinity Baptist Church, and it was there that he met the love of his life, Wilma June Kitchens. They both graduated from Classen High School - Class of 1947.

After graduation, at the age of 17, Bernie joined the United States Marine Corp. He was assigned to the largest aircraft carrier – The Valley Forge, stationed in San Diego. He sailed all over the world for eight months. He served in the Marines from 1947-1950, discharged two days before the Korean war began.

Upon discharge from the Marines, Bernie married Wilma on October 13, 1950. Their family included three daughters, Janet, Kathy and Nancy. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage before Wilma’s passing in 2014.

He began working for the United State Postal Service in 1950. As he was raising his family, he often worked an additional part time job to help make ends meet and in his 40’s he attended Central State University (UCO) at night earning credits toward a history degree. He worked for the Postal Service for 34 years, before retiring in 1984.

During his life, he enjoyed playing baseball in his younger days, bowling in leagues as an adult and was an avid reader. You would find if you talked with him, he was knowledgeable in many subjects-his favorite being history. He coached softball teams for his daughters, kept an immaculate yard and rooted for OSU.

Bernie’s character displayed kindness and gentleness. These outward characteristics were evidence of his relationship with Jesus Christ. He taught God’s Truths to his three daughters through scripture memory, and to others through years of teaching various aged Sunday School Classes, ranging from children to adults. He served as a deacon and on various other committees while a member of Britton Baptist Church.

Bernie is preceded in death by parents Bernhardt and Velna Noack Sr.; loving wife, Wilma; brother, J.W. Noack and sister, Irene Posey.

Bernie is survived by one sister, Nina Lutrick; three daughters, Janet Blanscet (Gary), Kathy Noack and Nancy Hanebaum (Kent); four grandchildren: Jeffrey Powell, Allison Smith (Ryan), Katie Dunlap (Kenton), and Tyler Hanebaum (Ali); eight great grandchildren: Claire, Lily, Kelen, Gavin, London, Nora, Graham and Kenna; and many nieces and nephews.
