Jo Carroll was born Betty Josephine Taylor in Havana, Arkansas on November 17, 1938 to Arry and Dorothy Taylor. She moved with her family to Fairfax, Oklahoma in 1949 at the age of 11 and stayed there, attending Fairfax High School and marrying her high school sweetheart, R. J. Carroll, in 1955. She and R. J. ran the Fairfax Chevrolet dealership and Jo ran the local Tag Agency until she moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 1978 and began working for Oklahoma Child Support Services for the state of Oklahoma. She moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in 1980 and remained there after retiring in 1998. She died on October 26, 2012 in her home of 32 years, surrounded by her loving family.
Jo led an active life with many friends and hobbies including gardening, puzzling, card-playing and traveling with the "red hatters". Most of all she loved spending time with her family and was devoted to her children, Connie Primeaux, Jeff Carroll, Jay Carroll, and Shawnya Voorhees, and their spouses, who knew her as a fiercely loyal "mom" and trusted advisor. She had an amazing ability to reach across the generations to her eight grandchildren, not only as "Grany", but also as a friend, a confidante, and someone fun to be around. Her love, loyalty, and great sense of humor will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Norma Crenshaw. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a nephew and his spouse, two grandnieces, and many friends in Fairfax, Oklahoma City, and Edmond.
A memorial service will be held in Oklahoma City at 2pm on November 3, 2012 at Smith & Kernke, 14624 N. May Av. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, or a charity of your choice.
