Bill Buntz

Bill Buntz passed away February 16, 2014, in Oklahoma City. He was born November 2, 1923, in Mound City, MO, the son of Wilmer George and Elizabeth (Meyer) Buntz. He grew up on a farm in rural northwest Missouri during the depression era. He served two years as a B-17 pilot in the Army-Air Corps. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Nebraska where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nebraska. Bill worked 14 years for Mallinckrodt Chemical Co. in St. Louis before joining Kerr-McGee in 1963, moving to Cushing, OK. He came to Oklahoma City in 1966 and retired in 1988. Bill was an active member of Village United Methodist Church, serving as long-time Pancake Breakfast Chairman and in numerous leadership positions. He also volunteered much of his time helping at the BritVil Community Food Pantry. Bill was an avid golfer and loved spending time with family. He maintained a beautiful rose garden and enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy, and second wife, Jean in 2001, his parents, a sister, Mary and a brother, Meyer. He is survived by four sons, William James "Skip" and wife Rose, Paul Stuart and wife Pam, Mark Alan and wife Lori, and Douglas Bruce; step-daughter, Lori Jean; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; his companion and close friend of 10 years, JoAnn Fair and many nieces, nephews and extended relatives. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. with his family here from 5 – 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. – Noon. A service to celebrate Bill's life will be held Thursday, February 20, at 2 p.m. at Village United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to BritVil Community Food Pantry, 8717 N Western Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73114, or to Village United Methodist Church, 2501 W. Britton Road, The Village, OK 73120.
