Bob G. Burns passed away in Oklahoma City on January 2, 2014. He was born October 27, 1927, in Oklahoma City to Amon and Myrtle (Harwell) Burns. He graduated from high school in Earlsboro, OK, in 1945 and then from Oklahoma A&M in 1950 with a degree in business. He served in the US Army from August 1950 until June 1952, including a tour in the Korean War from September 1950 to June 1951. After receiving an honorable discharge, he went to work for Cessna Aircraft for a short time before joining the Stanolind Oil Co. (later know as AMOCO) as an accountant and auditor. Taking night classes at the University of Tulsa, he earned his CPA in 1963. He then joined Superior Oil Company's Agricultural Subsidiary, first located in Houston, TX, and then Bakersfield, CA, prior to returning to Oklahoma City in 1979. On January 28, 1967, he married Mary Sue Cowden. He retired in 1992 but had become a dedicated genealogist during recent years. He also founded the Amon and Myrtle Burns Memorial Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma State University. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Sue, on June 22, 2011, and his siblings. He is survived by many nephews and nieces and their families. Services for Bob are private.
