Braden Sellers Hassebroek

Braden Sellers Hassebroek, 55, of Oklahoma City, passed away suddenly at work on Thursday, June 20th, 2024.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 15th at 11 a.m. at All Souls’ Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City.

Braden was born on September 6, 1968 in Houston, Texas to Don Hassebroek and Melinda Sellers. They moved to Morehead City, NC when he was 5, and he lived there with his parents and younger sister Elisabeth until 1980, when they moved to Oklahoma City. He attended Casady School from 6th grade until his graduation in 1987. Braden played football, baseball and basketball, but also participated in several school theater productions, most notably as the lead in “Annie Get Your Gun.” In 1991, he graduated from Colorado College with a double major in Political Science and History. He was a dual-athlete in D3 football, as a punter and outside linebacker, and a catcher in baseball. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He also helped coach Casady’s baseball team before he moved to Taipei, Taiwan for two years where he taught English to executives and kindergarten students. While there, he played on a local softball team and earned the nickname ‘Homerun.’ Braden began his career with the United Parcel Service while working toward a graduate degree in International Business at the University of Oklahoma. He worked the night shift at UPS and took classes during the day.

Braden and Bobbi Zimmerman married in 2003 and had three children, Bennett, Parker and Emery Hassebroek.

Braden was the kindest and most loyal friend. He was a protector and would fall on the sword for those he loved. He was truly the funniest person in the room with his ‘one of a kind’ wit that had us all in tears. Charming, modest and gentle, he was also one of the hardest working people around. Braden loved his children with everything he had and was always their biggest fan.

Braden is preceded in death by his parents, Melinda Sellers and Don Hassebroek, his grandparents; ‘Buddy’ and Wanda Sellers of Okla. City, and Willard and Lucille Hassebroek of Duncan, OK, his uncle Mack McGuire of Dallas, Texas and our long-time family friend Jerry Gladden of Okla. City.

Braden is survived by his children, Bennett, Parker, and Emery Hassebroek, all of Oklahoma City, his sister and brother-in-law, Elisabeth and Jack Larkin of Granite Bay, CA., aunts and uncles, Charlotte McGuire and Chuck Wilson, Rebecca Woodward, and Scott Woodward, all of Tulsa, OK, and Jerry and Pam Hassebroek of Atlanta, GA., his cousins, Corbin McGuire (Romney), Katherine Woodward, all of Tulsa, OK, Kelly Fleming (Adam) of Hopkinton, MA, Lauren Woodward (Patrick) of Spokane, Washington, Anna Woodward of Austin, TX, Carter Hassebroek (Paige) of Nashville and Katherine Hassebroek of Crested Butte, CO, and his nephews, Ryan, Hunter and Sam Larkin, all of Granite Bay, CA.
