Bryan Edward Coon

Bryan Edward Coon passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 14, 2024, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born March 2, 1954, in Oklahoma City to Edward M. and Billie Coon. As a boy, Bryan loved playing baseball, catching snakes with neighborhood friends, and watching OU football with his dad.

Bryan and Beverly raised their son, Brandon, and daughter, Brittany, in Deer Creek teaching them to love the Lord and serve others. Their family was a loving refuge of ministry and fun to many of their children’s friends and is full of cherished memories. Bryan especially loved coaching Brandon and Brittany in their sports and always made time to be at every event.

Bryan was the best dad Brittany could ask for and together they shared daily laughter and a close friendship that will be dearly missed. He was the type of dad who would drop anything to help Brittany with whatever she needed.

Professionally, Bryan and his father founded Coon Engineering, Inc. in 1984. He was a trusted real estate development consultant to many of Oklahoma City’s neighborhoods and commercial centers, serving as a professional engineer and licensed land surveyor for decades. There were few things Bryan enjoyed more than having Brittany man the phones during the summer break, while Brandon worked a survey crew under Bryan and “Grandpa Ed’s” loving guidance.

Bryan worked alongside his beloved son, Brandon, for more than fifteen years. The two of them accomplished many development, engineering and real estate projects, and Bryan always encouraged Brandon to take risks, grow professionally and cheered on his success. Bryan’s presence at the office, just two doors down from Brandon, will be deeply missed.

Bryan was a lifelong Sooner football fan, keeping the season tickets in the family for over 50 years and attending every home and away game possible. He loved the game of golf and valued his many long-time friends. He participated in several men's Bible studies, one of which has met together every Wednesday at his office on Wilshire for over 30 years.

Bryan also loved being a part of a local rock band called “Lost and Found.” He and his friends had a blast singing at the OKC Arts Festival for several years in a row and a favorite gig had to have been packing out the Jones Assembly for his stepdaughter’s wedding. Indeed, he was a kind and enthusiastic stepfather to Taylor, Bailey and Ian and loved them deeply. After retiring, he loved traveling with Tiffany and their friends to places like Orange Beach, Watersound, a weeklong drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and a bucket list trip to Yellowstone just last year.

Bryan and Tiffany created many fun memories hosting kids and grandkids for their epic color-coded Easter Egg hunts and swimming in “Grandpa’s pool”.

The most important thing about Bryan was his deep faith. He loved Jesus and shared his faith freely with others. Bryan was a member of Crossings Community Church, where he served as an elder for 6 years. He was a part of the first class of Stephen Ministers and was instrumental in starting the Crossings Clinic. He was always ready to help where he was needed, from visiting church members in the hospital to serving on the Prayer Team.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Bryan is survived by his wife Tiffany Self Coon, his sisters Bonnie Smith (Glen) and Patti Pojezny (Carl), his son Brandon Coon (Crystal), his daughter Brittany Grubbs (Tyler) and his treasured grandchildren Teagan, Oliver, and Heidi Grubbs and Everly and Barrett Coon. His marriage to Tiffany added Taylor Self, Bailey Mark (Teddy), Ian Self, and new granddaughter Hadley Mark. Bryan’s quiet compassion, dry sense of humor, and helpful spirit were just a few of the incredible qualities he possessed. The impact he made on those around him will never be forgotten.

Services will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Crossings Community Church (14600 N Portland Avenue) with a reception celebrating Bryan’s life to follow at Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club (7000 NW Grand Blvd) in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, it was Bryan's wish that memorial tributes be made to a non-profit project near to his heart, Wings A Special Needs Community-Thriving Together Campaign. Donations may be mailed to Wings, PO Box 2095, Edmond, OK 73083.

To quote the Moody Blues, Bryan might say, “I’m just a singer in a rock and roll band”- and loved every minute of it!
