Zane Skinner was born November 14, 1925 in Ruston, LA (Lincoln Parish) to Charles Lee and Gertrude Trussell Skinner. He was a Master Mariner (licensed to run any ship on any ocean), and retired as a Port of Houston ship pilot (34 yrs) in 1990. He graduated from Ruston High School, Ruston, LA in 1942; playing on the State championship football team in 1941, and receiving their Distinguished alumni award in 2011. He attended the University of Notre Dame on an athletic scholarship, and played on their National championship football team in 1943. He was called into World War II and served with Army Transport in the Pacific Ocean, receiving the APO, ETO, ATO and Victory ribbons. He played minor league baseball for 5 years, and worked as an Officer for Lykes Steamship Co West Indies Division for several years. He was the manager of American Legion baseball (Post 52 Houston), a 32nd degree Mason for over 50 years (member of Texas City Lodge No. 1118 and Oklahoma City Lodge No. 36), and a Member of Scottish Rite Body and Shriners. He is survived by his wife, Prof. Linda Livingston Shanbour Skinner - retired Professor, University of Texas Medical School at Houston; his children; Michael Clayton Skinner (Mentor, OH) and adopted daughter Erin Skinner (Mentor, OH); VADM Walter Mark Skinner USN ret (Falls Church, VA), and adopted daughter Kathryn McDonald (Katy, TX); Zana Skinner Blakely (Pearland, TX) and daughter Kristen Simpson (Naples, FL); numerous nieces and nephews; step-children; Richard Livingston Shanbour, CPA (Oklahoma City, OK), Kamal Anthony Shanbour, MD (Oklahoma City, OK) and children: Maria Nicole Shanbour Maupin, Trisha Geneva Shanbour, Quinn Anthony Shanbour, Torie Ann Shanbour, and Jacqueline Olivia Shanbour, and Brian Michael Shanbour, JD (Oklahoma City, OK) and daughter: Marina Marie Shanbour. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Lee Roy, Lavelle, Murice, Curtis, and Doc Skinner, Lurlene Wilks, Beatrice Ellington, Edith Barron, Lora Dring and 2 sisters as infants. Also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Mary Ann Peterson Skinner; and a son, 2nd Lt. Martin Andrew Skinner, USAF. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, with Dr. Bob Long officiating, 222 NW 15th, Oklahoma City, OK 73103. Zane's body was donated to the Willed Body Program, OU Health Science Center.
