Carolyn Dee Otey Wakely was born in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Colonel Ivo and Margie Brown Otey on October 19, 1935. She passed away suddenly in her home on July 23, 2015. Carolyn was raised in the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and she is now at peace with her Lord and Savior. Carolyn graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City in 1953. She attended the University of Oklahoma graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor Degree in Education. While at OU she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Later she obtained her Master Degree in Guidance and Counseling. She had a successful career in the Oklahoma City Public School System as a Counselor at Northwest Classen High School, a High School Principal and an employee at the Board of Education. After her tenure as an employee in the Oklahoma City Public School System, she was a cofounder of Eagle Ridge Institute which she helped develop into a successful social services agency by writing grants for program development. In addition, she became a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Prevention Specialist. When she left Eagle Ridge she went to work for the University of Oklahoma In Public and Community Services working on special projects. Also, Carolyn had many interests throughout her life and her passion was worldwide travel. She is survived by her sister Gloria Otey Rowland, her niece Melinda Rowland and nephews Steven and Rainette Rowland and their two children: Madison and Elizabeth and Brian Rowland and his two children: Abby and Jay. She is also survived by many loving cousins and friends. Her presence will never be forgotten and her memory will live on eternally with those she knew and loved. Her service will be held at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home in Oklahoma City on Thursday, July 30 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
