Carter Elmo Scott II

Carter “Rocky” Scott, II, 79, passed away on October 21, 2024. Rocky was born February 4, 1945 in Ada, Oklahoma, the oldest of four children. He was, as he would tell you, just happy to be here. He played multiple sports, but his first love was baseball. He was a phenomenal hitter and first baseman and went on to play in the minor leagues, where he developed firm opinions against the designated-hitter rule. He loved writing, theatre, reading objectively terrible mystery novels, and Daffy Duck. He was perpetually curious and adventurous; he lived in New York, Dallas, Boston, Houston, San Francisco, Thailand, Tallahassee, and Oklahoma City.

His second love was reporting, especially at the now-defunct UPI. It’s how he met his third love, Beth Fuhrman Scott, who he smartly proposed to after three months to trap her into a 44-year marriage. They had two perfect (by his telling) children, John and Sarah.

Although his family was his last love, it was his biggest. Rocky was at every baseball game, soccer game, recital, performance, and practice. He loved his kids loudly, but never overbearingly. He was (by our telling) the perfect dad, and he’s going to be incredibly missed.

Rocky is preceded in death by his parents, Carter and Dorothy Scott, and his siblings, Jean McCaleb and Pat Scott. He is survived by his wife, Beth Scott; his son, John Scott and wife Christina; his daughter, Sarah and husband Brent McCabe; and his amazing grandkids, Amelia and Abigail McCabe.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://alz.org.
