Cecil W. Brown, 100, died peacefully in Oklahoma City on June 7, 2010. Cecil was born in Dardanelle, Arkansas, on August 9, 1909. He moved to Okmulgee, OK, in his early youth and later to Tulsa where he met and married the former Mary Elizabeth Wallace. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1936. Cecil and Mary were married over 68 years before she passed away in 2004. They had 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Cecil was active in Oklahoma City civic affairs for over 50 years. He was a past member of the Jaycees, past long-time member of the Early Risers Club, long-time member and founder of the Credit Men's Dinner Club, and a life-time member of the Downtown Lions Club. He was also a long-time volunteer with the former Oklahoma City Family Clinic. During his career, Cecil worked for the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, Douglas Aircraft, Universal CIT, Porter Morgan Company, and was the owner of his own business, the Brown Adjustment Company for a number of years. For several years, as an avocation, Cecil wrote a sports column for the old Oklahoma Journal newspaper and for the business paper, The Graphic. His columns were sometimes lighthearted, sometimes serious, but always deliberately pro O.U. football which won him numerous admirers from the legions of O.U. football fans around the metro area. Cecil and his wife were members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic parish for over 50 years. Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Mary. He is survived by his children: William L. (Bill) Brown and his wife Marianne of Arlington, TX, Mary Ann Markey and her husband Jim, John R. Brown and his wife Sherri of Edmond; Fred W. (Pete) Brown and his wife Barbara, James Michael (Mike) Brown and his wife Mindy of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends in Oklahoma and around the country. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church at 7336 W. Britton Rd. in Oklahoma City. A Vigil Service will be held at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N. May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, at either Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church, 7336 N. Britton Rd, Oklahoma City, Ok 73132 or at St. Johns Catholic Church, 924 S. Littler Avenue, Edmond, OK 73034.
