Celeste M. Knebel passed away on July 27, 2012 at the age of 86. Celeste developed Alzheimer's disease in late 2010, and the disease intensified in May 2012. She was able to pass peacefully in the presence of loved ones. Celeste was born on June 1, 1926, at the family farm near Pierron, IL to Walter W. Knebel and Lena Spengel. She was the third of seven children: John, Donald (deceased), Dolores, Alfred, Thomas, and William (deceased). Celeste graduated from St. Paul High School in Highland, IL in 1943. She trained at the St. John Hospital in Springfield, IL, and became a registered nurse. After working in this capacity for several years, she attended St. Louis University and was earned the Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Education. After teaching for a few years at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, she decided she preferred the practice of nursing. She returned to nursing work at McDonnell Douglas Corporation, and became the Head Nurse, before retiring in 1986. After retirement, she worked as a part time nurse in various locations. Celeste was a loving caregiver for various members of the family, and was the favorite aunt to 17 nieces and nephews. She loved to entertain these children, and in this capacity, she saw the movie "The Sound of Music" at least a dozen times. She had many lifetime friends. In retirement, she enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. Celeste was a devout Catholic, and left this world in peace, knowing that God had plans for her in Heaven. Celeste was a wise, loving lady with immense strength and perseverance. She will be missed by family and her many friends.
