Charles William Ferguson, II received his wings November 21, 2018 at home in Oklahoma City. "Sonny" was born May 1, 1930 in Kewanee, Illinois. The Great Depression caused the family furniture business to close and for the family to move to his grandfather's farm in Paducah, Kentucky. It's here, with his parents and four siblings, that Charles nurtured his core values that would be exhibited through his life: family and hard work. Be it plowing fields, milking cows or fighting as a heavyweight Golden Gloves boxer, Charles always took challenges head on.
After high school, Charles went to work for Bowes Industries. He quickly moved up the ranks and was promoted to Plant Manager in Watertown, NY. Along with him, went his new bride, Gerry, whom he met on the phone when she was a switchboard operator. This was the start of a 23 year and 5 state odyssey that saw the birth of all three of his children. During that period, in 1955, he was drafted into the US Army and spent 2 years in Ft Knox, Kentucky and Hamburg, Germany.
Never afraid of a challenge, he decided to move to Oklahoma to learn the business of air conditioning. He founded Dual Aire Services, which has completed AC systems in over 30,000 apartments in 7 states. He also became a leader in Warr Acres, serving as a Councilman, President of the Chamber, and two term Mayor. Charles traveled the world with Gerry, but he was most happy being at home with his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Corbett Rhey Ferguson and Katie Maude Cook Ferguson, sister; Gwendolyn Meadows, and brothers; James Rhey Ferguson and Bruce Eldon Ferguson.
He is survived by wife of 66 years, Geraldine Tyner Ferguson, son; Charles William Ferguson, III (Jacqueline) of Ventura, California, daughter; Michelle Ferguson Shades (Dathan) of OKC, son; Gerald Craig Ferguson (Janell) of OKC, and sister; Jackie Smith of OKC.
Grandchildren; Rory Ferguson Grimes (Brett) and great-granddaughter; Violet Grimes, William Ferguson (Parissa) and Charlotte Ferguson, Savannah Shades, Charlie Shades, Zane Shades, Charles William Ferguson IV, Sofia Ferguson, Ileana Ferguson, and Tyner Ferguson.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Paula Avery, Liz Wyatt and other Brightstar caregivers, Valir Hospice, Oklahoma City Fire Station #3 and the family and friends that cared for Charles over the past months.
