Charles Joseph Shaw

Charles Joseph Shaw, 90, passed away peacefully with his children by his side on January 14, 2022. He was born in Fairfax, OK to John & Mable (Musgrove) Shaw on January 14, 1932. After graduating from Cascia Hall in Tulsa, OK, attended Oklahoma State University and OU Medical Center in OKC where he graduated with his medical degree in 1961. Dr. Shaw interned at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa and at Mercy Hospital in Alexandria, LA. In 1963, he began his medical practice and became a board certified family medicine physician in 1964. Charles always felt a calling to help those with alcohol and/or drug problems so in 1993, he moved to AZ where he specialized in addiction medicine. He returned to OKC where he eventually retired. In addition to his career as a physician, Charles also served his country in the Army for a few years, being stationed at Ft. Benning and Ft. Campbell before his honorable discharge. Family was always a big part of Charles' life. He married Ellen Patricia Rowland on July 3, 1954 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Phenix City, AL. Their family was blessed with two daughters, Lindsay and Kathi, and two sons, Chuck and Greg. Charles was a dog lover and would occasionally bring his dog to the hospital with him to make rounds. He also loved football, playing golf, fishing, and had a fondness for coffee ice cream. He was a devoted husband, loving father & grandfather, and dear friend to all those who loved and knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Franklin V. Shaw & Rose Shaw, brother Jack Shaw, and nephew Ron. He is survived by his children, Lindsay Shaw, Kathi Shaw, Charles Shaw Jr & wife Janis, and Gregory Shaw & wife Karen; grandchildren Zachary Matney, Avery Matney, Natalie Shaw, Marne Shaw, Erin Martinez, & Kate Hong; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, & friends
