Charles Michael McIntyre, Mike, Mac, or Charlie to most, 76, of Edmond, Oklahoma, went to be with our Lord on July 9, 2024.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am July 17, 2024, at St. Monica Catholic Church, 2001 N. Western, Edmond, Oklahoma, with Father Balireddy Ponnapati presiding. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on July 16 at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N. May Avenue. Burial will follow the funeral at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery at 12:00 noon.

Mike was born in Oklahoma City, OK on May 21, 1948, but spent most of his youth in Chickasha, OK where he attended St. Joseph Catholic School. After his further education had been interrupted by the Vietnam Nam War, he received a GED and earned a BA Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. However, for the majority of his college years, he attended and became an avid, life time fan of the University of Oklahoma

Mike served his country with honors from 1965-1969 in the US Marine Corps. As a highly decorated veteran, he earned these awards: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, The Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with a Bronze Star, 2 Good Combat Medals, The Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation and multiple other commendations, citations, and awards. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and survived the seventy-seven day Seige of Khe Sanh.  In 2020, he completed and published a book, Shining in Infinity, which was inspired by his experiences while in the Marine Corps.

Mike began a law enforcement career as an officer of the OU Campus Police before joining the Oklahoma City Police Department in 1973. After graduating from the academy, he was assigned to the Patrol Division where he excelled and was soon transferred to other specialty units within the department that included Special Projects, F.A.S.T Unit, and the Criminal Intelligence unit.

While assigned to the Criminal Intelligence unit, he investigated or assisted in the investigation of several high-profile criminal cases. His dedication to his work resulted in receiving the Medal for Meritorious Service in 2001. He also received exemplary recognition by the Vietnamese for crimes committed against their community and numerous other awards and citations. Mike retired from the Oklahoma City Police Department in 2003. Soon after, he worked at Chesapeake and played an integral role in their security department. Though most will remember his continued law enforcement service throughout his later years while enjoying and providing security at the Municipal Employees Credit Union.

Mike married Patty O’Dea in 1969. They were married for 27 years and shared three amazing children. He stood faithfully by her side until she lost her battle with cancer. In 1998, Mike married Jan Cooper who also had three wonderful children, and they lived 26 beautiful years together.

Mike is survived by his loving wife: Jan, children: Shoana Gann, Mary Smith & husband Mike, Danny McIntyre & wife Amber, Bill Cooper & wife Jennifer, Jeff Cooper, and Shane Cooper & wife Kelsea, grandchildren: Ben Cooper, Braxton Smith, Jake Cooper, Macklin Smith, Ruby McIntyre, Kade Cooper, Kole Cooper, Leo McIntyre, Ian Rambo, and Kate McIntyre, and siblings: Mary Harris and Pat McIntyre.

Long time friends have expressed the most incredible tributes to Mike. However, one sums him up best:

“Real men play like boys, and boys play like men.” Mike was a real man.

The family would like to thank the OU medical team for their unwavering care.
