Christy Leigh Summers

Rev. Christy Leigh Germany Summers was born on May 13, 1969 in Oklahoma City to Don and Pam Germany. Christy graduated from Putnam City North High School in 1987 and then attended Oklahoma City University as a Bishop's scholar. She earned her Bachelors in Arts in Religion from there in 1991. Following, she went on to pursue the calling she received as a freshman in high school while attending church camp, and began her Masters in Divinity at Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas, Texas. While in North Texas, Christy served at Farmer's Branch United Methodist Church; she established the Creekwood United Methodist Church and also served as both minister and children's minister at First United Methodist Church of Allen. Christy also raised her three children, Peyton Leigh James, Reed Austin James and Olivia Grace James. In 2010, Christy and her family moved back to Oklahoma where she continued to serve in ministry throughout the Oklahoma City area. She served at United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd in Mustang, New Covenant United Methodist Church in Edmond, the Wesley Foundation at the University of Central Oklahoma, Chapel Hill United Methodist in Oklahoma City, and finally, as the senior minister of Watonga United Methodist Church. Christy was embraced into God's presence on the afternoon of October 22, 2019 due to a tragic vehicular accident. God's purpose for Christy was evident both in her ministry and her everyday life. She was an awe-inspiring individual to all who knew her. Her legacy will live on through the thousands of people that made up her congregations, the friendships she cherished so dearly, the children and youth she led at camps and churches, and her beloved family. Christy was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Don Germany and is survived by her husband, Blair Summers; her three children, Peyton, Reed, and Olivia James; her parents, Don and Pam Germany; her sister, DeeAnn Fox and husband Chris, their children, Tyler and Sophia Fox; her brother, Greg Germany and wife Amy, their children, Justin, John and Chris Germany; as well as many other beloved family and friends. Services will be 11am Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the United Methodist Church of the Servant. Christy will be buried in the Garden of Devotion at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City.Christy's family is overwhelmed with pride and gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. Due to the generosity of the Methodist Foundation establishing the Rev. Christy Germany Summers Scholarship, donations honoring her may be made to the Methodist Foundation, 4201 N. Classen Blvd., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73118. The family gratefully acknowledges your loving Christy through her life and for blessing those who loved her after her passing with your prayers, your presence, and your encouragement.
