Clara B. Luber

Clara B. Luber, a loving friend, mother, and grandmother departed her family on March 12, 2022. Clara was born in Okarche, Okla. on August 15,1935 to Fredrick and Clara (Heupel) Rott. Even at her baptism on July 25,1937 at the Evangelical Church in Kingfisher, mom screamed as her head was soaked with the water of the Baptismal fount, as Clara hated having her head wet. (She never outgrew that). Having survived her baptism, Clara grew up and was confirmed into Christian faith on April 10,1949 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Okarche, Okla. Mom began working for Okla. Farm Bureau in Okla. City in 1953 during which time she married Eugene (Gene) Luber on April 17, 1954. She continued to work there until 1957 (when I was born). The following two years, I didn't know what sleep was, so she didn't work. Then in 1959, having survived my early years, Clara began working as the secretary of the Intramural Department for OSU while Gene finished his degree. Three short years later, they moved from Tulsa, Okla, into a house they had built outside of Okarche. Not one to stay home, Clara began working at Standard Life & Accident Insurance Co. beginning in 1963. She was always known for her organizational skills, patience, leadership and when in deep thought, she usually had a pencil behind her ear. Mom's hobbies were few, but she was an excellent seamstress when young, enjoyed being in the garden, and was a voracious reader always. She left her career at Standard in 1976, so she and Gene could open Okarche Lawn and Garden which they owned until 2000, then moving everything, including the cat, to Divide, Colorado. Clara enjoyed being an active member at Faith Lutheran Church and then Rock of Ages Church while living in Colorado. She loved the mountains, but missed Sherry and family, so in 2012 they moved to Wichita, KS. As church was such an important part of her life, Clara became a member at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She occasionally sang in the choir, attended bible studies with her daughter and actively participated in making bibles for the blind. Fred and Clara Rott, moms' parents, preceded her in death, as did her nine siblings, Clarence, Albert, Carl, Florentine Rott, Helen Rohwer, Alma Tech, Gertrude (Trudy) Lorenz, Pauline Schroder, Minnie Schroder, a sister-in-law Jonie Jo Luber and one grandchild Blair Lorraine Johnson. Clara loved and adored her family and always liked hearing what the grandchildren were up to. Surviving her are husband Eugene, brother-in-law Darryl Luber, daughter, Sherry Scheffer and husband Richard, grandchildren Shawna Scheffer, Jessica Hegeman, Scott Scheffer and wife Alison, Elizabeth (Liz) Johnson, Anthony Scheffer and wife Leanne. Great grandchildren Jacob, Lillian (Lilli), Coryn (Corn), Elizabeth (Beth), Andrew, Natalie and Eli. It was my mother's wishes that her memorial service be held in Wichita, KS.
