Curtis Scott Cowell

Curtis Scott Cowell, 73, was the son of Otto Roy Cowell and F. Vaynne Cowell. Scott was born on August 12, 1951, in Perry, OK and died on January 18, 2025, in Oklahoma City. 

 Scott attended Christ Lutheran Church in Perry and Perry Public School through 8th grade, after which his family moved to Kingfisher, OK where he attended Kingfisher High School and graduated in 1969. During high school, Scott played for the Kingfisher Yellowjacket football team, ran on the track team, and was Student Council President, along with several other honors.

 After high school, Scott attended Oklahoma State University where he was floor president of his dorm and on the OSU Presidential Leadership Council. After three years of undergraduate studies at OSU, he was admitted to and graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. He then practiced optometry in Florida before moving back to Oklahoma to open his first practice in Perry and later opened a second practice in Oklahoma City. Scott owned and operated the practices in both Perry and Oklahoma City for many years and was an accomplished businessman. After retiring, Scott met Heather Horne, and they were married in August of 2017.

 Scott is survived by two siblings, Rick Cowell and his wife Annette Kennedy Cowell of Stillwater, OK and Kara Cowell Gill and her husband Keith Gill of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by three nieces—Anne Vaynne Cowell and her husband Ted Wilmes and their children of Norman, OK, Kelsey Vaynne Mangiapane and her husband Chase Mangiapane of Little Rock, AR, and Mackenzie Jean Plank and her husband Gabe Plank of Edmond, OK. Scott was predeceased by his parents Otto and Vaynne Cowell and his niece Rebecca Katherine Cowell. 

 Scott had a passion for travel, venturing from Egypt to Papua New Guinea in the South Pacific to scuba diving in the Red Sea. He was an avid scuba diver and enjoyed underwater photography. 

 Scott’s quick wit, infectious smile, and brilliant sense of humor will be missed. He loved what he did, lived what he loved, and brought joy to all who knew him.
