Dale R. Lauffer, 89, beloved father of George, Franz, Brigitte, Ray, and Sarah, peacefully passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Maria.
Mr. Lauffer was raised on a ranch in the Flint Hills of Kansas during the Depression. After graduating from Howard High School, he joined the U.S. Army. He retired after 20 years; his final assignment was at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, where he was a team leader of a twelve person faculty that included instruction in missile guidance systems. After he retired from the Army, he took a job with RCA as a field engineer. Later he worked for Telex on the IBM mainframe computer system. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1973 where he retired from Telex after a long and successful second career.
In addition to his five surviving children, he leaves behind seven grandchildren: Michael Lauffer, Christyn Byler, Justin Lauffer, Brandon Gardner, Carly Lauffer, Robert Long, and Elizabeth Long; and four great-grandchildren, Colin Lauffer, Linnea Lauffer, Gentry Byler, and Kuhlin Byler.
Mr. Lauffer was the son of Raymond and Sarah Lauffer (Norman) of Piedmont, Kansas. His three brothers and sister preceded him in death.
A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 18, at the rural Piedmont Cemetery near the ranch where he was born.
