Kent Kennedy, age 65, was born to Mary Jo and J. D. Kennedy in Oklahoma City on Feb. 5, 1948. Kent passed away at his home on July 8 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was about quality of life and believed that God knew what was best for him. He often said that he grew up in the best of times and lived by the values under which he was raised. He attended Harding High School and graduated from Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri. A highlight of his Harding years was when their football team won the City Wide Championship for junior high in 1963. At Kemper he was on the golf team for three years and was nicknamed "Deke" by his fellow classmates. He enjoyed the game of golf throughout his life and had the opportunity to play the old course at St. Andrews. He received a BBA degree from Oklahoma City University. Kent's early business career was in sales with Chromalloy Industries traveling to Texas and Louisiana. Presently, he was in the oil and gas business. Kent's real love in life was traveling and he felt blessed to have seen so much of the world. He had a special love for Costa Rica which is where he spent most of his time during the past several years. He was a member of the Nichols Hills United Methodist Church, the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club and former member of the CEO Dinner Club and Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law James Kendal McCann. He is survived by his sister Laurie and her husband Jim Hyde, a nephew Jimmy McCann and his wife Emily, and a niece Margot McCann. Also two great nieces Margaret Elle and Millie McCann, and great nephew Henry Tebbe. Step niece Laurie Hyde Moeller, husband John and daughters Anna Kate and Sara, as well as sister-in-law, Sally McCann Holmes. Two of his greatest loves were his family and friends. He enjoyed morning coffee with friends to discuss Fox news and the stock market. The family would like to thank Laura Hicks Home Care and Integris Hospice and especially the doctors and nurses at Stephenson Cancer Center. Box 26901, OKC, OK 73126. A memorial service in celebration of Kent's life will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 1:00 p. m. at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church, 1212 Bedford.
