Daniel Leon Hancock peacefully left this earthly life on the morning of April 4th. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Daniel was born to Benjamin Leon Hancock and Maudy Luell Blackledge on April 23, 1931 in Laurel, Mississippi. After attending George S. Gardiner High School where he played football and basketball, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following his time in the navy, he attended college and played football at both Mississippi State and Texas A & M. Daniel had a long career in the oil business, most of which was with Shell Oil in Texas, Mississippi, and finally Bakersfield, California. He retired after 33 years in 1990, and then he relocated to Edmond, Oklahoma in 2005. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vicki Jones Hancock. Daniel was blessed to be the father of four children (Philip, Becky, Hugh, and Connor) and grandfather of nine grandchildren (Trisha, Mark, Katie, Jenn, Katy, Andrea, Dylan, Cameron, and Alyssa). He adored his family and loved them deeply. In his time of leisure, Daniel was an avid golfer, and he had a love for good books, music, and history. He also loved a good card game and watching sports, but he mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. "Daniel, dad, papa, grandpa, and friend," we will miss you and your big heart and your big hugs!
