Darlene Rose Brown

Darlene Rose (Schacherl) Brown passed away December 8, 2015 in Oklahoma City. She was born July 25, 1940, in Moulton, TX, the daughter of John and Rose Lillian (Knesek) Schacherl. She graduated from W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX and then attended James R. Daughtery School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, TX. Darlene served as a nurse in the United States Air Force. She married James Duane Brown on March 4, 1967 at Griffiss Air Force Base Chapel in Rome, NY. Upon moving to Oklahoma City, she worked as a nurse at Deaconess Hospital and later as a part-time school nurse for Putnam City Schools. She was very active, serving as a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the Girl Scouts Alumni Association. She was involved with St. Charles Bowling League. Darlene was a member of Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church where she was affiliated with Epiphany Senior Classics. She also participated in Worldwide Marriage Encounter. She and Jim loved traveling. They have visited all seven continents and nearly 100 countries. They have experienced tigers in Nepal, being stampeded by elephants in Zimbabwe, and were stuck in ice in Antarctica. She is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Sharon Marie Sargent and husband Brian; son, David James Brown and wife Bucky; three grandchildren, Kathryn Rose Sargent, Lila Elizabeth Sargent, and Victoria Isabel Sargent. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Eugene Schacherl. An evening service will be held Thursday, December 10 at 6 p.m. at Smith & Kernke May Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church.
