David Pike Ennis

On Feb. 2, 2012 the heavenly host of Angels (led by Hallie Jane) lifted David Pike Ennis to meet his Savior, Jesus Christ. Dave was born Nov. 17, 1936 in Sandgate, VT. He served in the US Army in the 1950's, moved to OKC in 1966, received his degree from Oklahoma City University and worked as a Research Statistician for OK DHS under his favorite boss, Lloyd Rader. Dave was an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, the Men's Bible Class and Retired Fellowship. He was a traffic and Safety Commissioner for the City of the Village and long-time volunteer at Mercy Hospital where he had just completed a term as the Associate Treasurer of the Auxiliary. Dave loved sports of all kinds but especially OU football and the OKC Thunder. Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Sarah (Pike) Ennis; his first wife, Hallie; and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Carole; his four legged children, Hans Grubb and Isabella; granddaughters, Hannah Clayton and Rose Blue; grandsons, Christopher Sullivan and Noah Blue; brother, Gerald "Ace" Ennis of Salem, NY; God-children/niece and nephew, David Atkins and Katy Atkins Robbins; and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff of Mercy Hospital's Unit 3-D for their loving care and patient advocacy. Also, thank you to our "Knights in Shining Armor", David Rader, M.D. hospitalist, and Tom Edelstein, VP of Missions and Ethics, at Mercy Hospital. Thank you Karen Henderson, Rhetha Riley and Romeo Moya, the amazing private sitters who ensured that Dave's every need was met during his hospitalization. We also thank Dave's Clergy, members of Men's Bible Class, Robin Dickerson and Ellen Jackson at Chapel Hill UMC. Lastly, thank you to all our friends who loved Dave during his long life in OKC, especially Dave's best friend, Gary Patton, with whom he solved the mysteries of the Universe. We appreciate the wonderful service given by Todd & Sally Kernke at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 11, 2012 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chapel Hill's Caregivers' Mission Fund, 2717 W. Hefner Road, OKC, OK 73120.
