Born to Walter A. "Jack" and Mildred Brandt Nashert on July 30, 1963, in Oklahoma City, Dayna Louise Nashert Dunnagan attended Christ the King School, Bishop McGuinness High School and graduated from the University of San Diego in 1986. She passed away on September 11, 2015, in her home in Tumwater, WA due to complications following surgery. During the tragedy of 9/11/01, Dayna managed the American Airlines CARE team, living her passion to help others.
Dayna was a loving wife to James Dunnagan for 15 years and an exceptional mother to daughter Abigail Ellen who joined the family on November 22, 2001. Abby shares her mother's love of makeup, dogs and vintage trailer camping in the beautiful Pacific Northwest - what a combination. Cooking was one of her favorite pastimes (along with posting recipes), and she loved to decorate for the holidays. Her kind heart and loving spirit will be missed by all those she has touched.
Dayna is also survived by her siblings - Wally (Julie) Nashert, Chele (Gary) Gatewood, and Brandt Nashert, along with her cousins. Her many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and god-children will miss their Aunt Dayna dearly.
Dayna had a successful career across the country spanning multiple industries. In 25 years, she arranged travel in Connecticut, worked for American Airlines on the CARE team in Texas, financial services in Texas and Washington state and finally in medical support services at the time of her death. While definitely a career woman, Dayna also had a feisty side. Her political ranting on social media was loved/hated by many but never ignored. She loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Sooners, and Thunder basketball. Do not attempt an argument on the merits of an opponent.
A memorial Mass will be held in her honor on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oklahoma City, OK at 11:00 AM. Prayers for the repose of her soul are gratefully accepted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Panda Paws Rescue (www.pandapawsrescue.org) or your local dog rescue.
