Born August 7, 1928 at home in Lexington, Oklahoma to Edgar and Beatrice Hardwick, Diane passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017 after suffering a broken hip.
Diane loved tap dancing, country dancing, needlepoint, the Sunday crossword puzzle, Crossings Community Church, her three daughters and her 30 grandchildren. She was proud of the fact that she had the most important job in the country – that as a mother and grandmother.
Diane attended Lexington public schools and OU, where she was a member of Alpha Phi. In 1948, she met a young man just out of the Navy – Tom Hendrick – they married later that year in Norman, OK and had their first child (Cyndy) 11 months later in 1949. Suzy followed in 1951, Becky in '54 and little Tom in '55.
Diane remarried in 1988 to John Ellis Freeny at the Stuart Ranch in Caddo County. They were married for 21 years until Ellis' death in 2009. Diane left this earth and went to her heavenly home at the age of 88, at Epworth Villa in Oklahoma City, where she had been living since 2015. She was surrounded by those that loved her more than she could ever imagine, her daughters and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her 14-year-old son in 1970, Thomas K. Hendrick, Jr., husband Thomas K. Hendrick in 1997 and husband, John Ellis Freeny in 2009. She is survived by three daughters: Cyndy Hoenig, Suzanne Phillips and Becky and Steve Wetwiska, Also surviving her are special sitter and companion, Sammie Coleman; her grandchildren and great grandchildren Amy, George, Katy and Maddie Freeman; Ashley, Troy, Gunnar, Joseph, Chase and Ryder Smith; Shea, Tyler, and Austin Moseley; Cynda and Brad Thayer; Kent, Jenny and Nora Phillips; Neely Phillips, Jeff, Emily and Corbin Watson; Jackie, Jeff, Noah and Maggie Jane Willis; Annie, Jimbo, Easton, Beau, Owen and Cruz McAuliff; Steven, Marjorie, Jack, Ben and Quinn Wetwiska and Patrick Wetwiska.
