Dee, former longtime Ponca City resident, passed away December 3, 2015, in Edmond, OK. She was born April 14, 1930 in Parsons, KS where she was raised by her grandparents and great grandmother following her mother's death. Growing up she was a musician learning to play the piano as well as playing the saxophone in the high school band. Dee was a consummate host who loved having company. She was an excellent cook always prepared wonderful meals at home. She took charge of the kitchen at church when meals were organized for special occasions. She was very active in her church, also leading a prayer chain. Dee was the queen of letter writing, sending notes and cards regularly to both friends and relatives. She diligently wrote letters to deployed servicemen she knew. Dee loved shopping; she and her lady friends would hit all of the sales. When she was younger she enjoyed going on motorcycle rides with her husband and attending classic car shows. Dee moved to Edmond in 2012 to be near her grandchildren. Her grandson-in-law described her as "the standard by which all Grannies should be measured." She is survived by her grandchildren Tabitha Lockhart, husband Mark, and their children, Sam and Sheridan, and Travis Powell, wife Kim, and their son, Cameron. Her husband Howard Ray "Chum" Chumbley, her daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Glenn Powell, preceded her in death. The funeral service will be Monday, December 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Ponca City Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
