Dr. Gary Peter Dickinson

Dr. Gary Peter Dickinson's life is a love story – the story of love for Kim, his wife of 34 years, his love of his sons and family, his love of the Catholic Church, his love of his friends, his love of his patients, his love of all things OSU and sports, and his love of fun. Gary was born on January 20th, 1953, in Oklahoma City to Robert S. Dickinson and Gloria K. (Gavazza) Dickinson. He passed from this life on June 25, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and while his sons serenated him to sleep. Gary fought Crohns disease for most of his life with his powerful persistence and grace without a word of complaint. Gary & Kim shared an exciting love affair that began in 1972 and will continue on for eternity. He truly believed Kim was the most beautiful woman God created and he loved her dearly. Together they provided the laughter & enthusiasm for their family that grew to 3 sons, 3 daughter-in-laws and 5 beautiful grandchildren. Gary graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1971, and went on to OSU where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1975. He was accepted into the University of Oklahoma Medical School and became a Family Practice Physician in 1983. His patients, numbering in the thousands, loved him and followed him to any clinic he practiced at. Dr. Dickinson (Doc D) was a successful Family Practice Physician for 31 years. He practiced in Midwest City, Edmond, and Oklahoma City. He served as Medical Director and Board of Directors in many of the groups he practiced with. He was currently providing services to the St. Charles free medical clinic in Oklahoma City. He was truly committed to and passionate about every patient and their care. Gary loved every minute of life and by example he taught others to do the same. His kindness was his trademark. He had a signature laugh that would fill you up until you too were engulfed in it. He knew how to have fun and make friends. He never missed a single sporting event for any of his three sons, and they will tell you that they could always hear his voice coaching them from the crowd. He lived for his sons. His lifelong friendships are endless. He continued to cherish those and make time regularly for their golf & hunting weekends – never missing a chance to see his 'brothers.' He also loved landscaping, music, and spending time outside barbequing. For many years of his life you could find him outside in the garden or the yard. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Robert; his mother, Gloria; his father-in-law, Geno; and his grandparents. He is survived by his large family that loves him dearly and will miss him daily including: His wife Kim, his sons and daughter-in-laws Greg & Abbey, Jeff & Heather, Jon Pat & Amanda. Papa will forever be loved by his grandchildren Stevie, Greer, Isabella, Bennett, Bridgette, and his brother Richard and wife Brenda of Strawberry, AZ. As well as his in-laws Betty Feronti, Gene and Chris Feronti of Houston, Tx; Craig Feronti in Plano, TX; Dawn Feronti-Henry of Edmond; Tami and Scott Clinton of Edmond; Pami and Larry Henderson of Oklahoma City; Jeanne and Paul Bronson of Edmond; Mary Feronti and Jeff Harrison of Oklahoma City, and Greg and Tia Feronti of Yukon.
