Eleanor Ardyth Green Phillips was full of love and loved by many. Devoted to her Family, Friends, Church and Church Family she was a Beautiful, Strong Spirit that walked among us. An avid Gardener she marveled at nature's beauty. Adventurous, she loved to travel but couldn't wait to get home. An accomplished cook, she spent hours pouring over cookbooks and sharing her delightful baked creations. She had a way of making everything fun and loved to bring color and creativity wherever she went. Her mind was always eager to learn and share with others. A loyal Oklahoman, she supported local restaurants, loved to attend festivals, the theatre, sporting events and was devoted to her OU Football team. Intelligent and inquisitive, she loved to read, work puzzles and solve mysteries. Saturdays it was John Wayne movies with an occasional Agatha Christie mystery. She cared deeply for animals, her pets being part of her Family. Born in 1929 during the Great Depression, she lived on 35th and 18th Streets and her Family were early residents of Nichols Hills. She graduated from Classen High School and went on to attend Christian College for 2 years in Columbia, Missouri where she met her Husband Bill. She returned to Oklahoma to attend OU, although her parents were early Alumni of Oklahoma A&M. Her Masters Degree in Education was earned at Central State University. Married on Easter Sunday in March of 1951 at Crown Heights Christian Church, she was a lifelong member of the Church. Losing her Husband Bill a year after their Daughter Chris was born, she returned to spend the rest of her life in Oklahoma City. An amazing teacher, she taught preschool before going to work for the Oklahoma City School System for over 30 years. Her love for children was evident by her colorful classrooms filled with music, art and fun lessons. Eleanor is survived by her Daughter, Chris Meehan and Husband Michael; Sister Virginia Hoover; Grandchildren Ryan and Kerri Meehan, DeeAnn and Kenny Otter, Amanda and Victor Wernett and Bri Meehan; Great Grandchildren Killian and Aisling Wernett and all her loving Nieces and Nephews. Her Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 15 at Crown Heights Christian Church, 4020 N. Western, OKC. Donations to Crown Heights Christian Church in Eleanor's memory are welcomed.
