Having served the Lord, his Family, and country, Ellis fell asleep in the Lord on March 19, 2017. He was born on July 4, 1929, son of Zakay and Ellis Hanna, Sr., who preceded him in death, along with his brothers Nicholas, Abe, Zeek, John, and sister Rose. He is survived by his loving wife, Laurette, daughter Karen, and son Michael and his wife Mary Jane, and grandchildren Audrey and Rachel. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He graduated from Central Falls High School in Rhode Island in 1948. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Navy, serving aboard various aircraft carriers. He served three tours in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953. In September 1954, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served for 25 years. His service gave him the opportunity to travel the world. He served one tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievements as Chief of the HQ 7th Air Force Personnel Assistance Team. He was also awarded several other decorations for meritorious performance. His last assignment was at Tinker AFB where he served as Senior NCO of the Base Military Personnel Branch. Upon retirement, he served as Chief of the Contingency and Deployment Section in the Base Military Personnel Branch. He retired in 1999, enabling him to enjoy his favorite pastimes: gardening, woodworking, and golfing with dear friends. He was an active member of St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church, serving two terms as Secretary of the Parish Council. Funeral services will be held at St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church, 15000 N. May Ave, Oklahoma City at 10:30 am on Tues., March 21, 2017. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Elijah Flowers That Do Not Wither Fund.
