Emilia Estrada Hodson

With very heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of Emily Estrada Hodson, who passed away on May 17, 2023, at age 58, after courageously battling numerous complex illnesses over the past several years. Always optimistic and full of life, Emily's love for her family was immeasurable, evident in the way she unconditionally cared for them throughout her life.Through Emily's life journey, she collected a wide circle of friends who cherished her and her love of life. Emily loved being around children, and children loved being around Emily, especially her nephews and niece, while they were growing up. They all called her "Nina" even as they reached adulthood. She was very proud of her children and adored her grandchildren, who called her "Nana," and she made every opportunity to see them and cheer them on in their activities. Emily enjoyed the outdoors, taking the kids camping, swimming, fishing, and having the biggest laughs and the best of fun. Emily loved to party, dance, travel, and would always take Mom on outings to the casino, bingo, or out of town for a road trip.Emily enjoyed being around her family. She was devoted and dedicated to our mother, who would help care for Emily during difficult health periods. Although Emily had many limitations, when Mom was in the hospital for a month, she stayed or would only leave for short times as long as someone was there. The loss of our mother was only nine months ago, and it took its toll on us all, especially Emily. She will be missed by all who love her, and words cannot describe how much she will be missed. May your soul rest in peace. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Juan and Manuela Maturino; parents, Rodolfo and Maria Estrada; and son, John Estrada. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Alan Hodson; son, Christian Estrada; daughter, Savannah Hodson; three grandchildren, Talon & Taleigh Estrada, and Alainna Joy Hodson; one great-grandchild, Barrett Estrada; sister, Melinda Nievez Cathcart (Bill); brothers, Rudy Estrada (Michelle) and Raul Estrada; six nephews, Mario (Jennifer), Michael, and Morgan Nievez; Phillip and Matthew Estrada; Joshua Estrada; one grandnephew, Maddox Nievez; one niece, Jada Estrada; and two grand nieces, Whitley and Phoenix Nievez; and many cousins and aunts and uncles who live in Newark, NJ; Tulsa, OK; and in and around Albuquerque, NM.A Rosary Service will be held at Smith & Kernke on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 7:00 pm.
