Emily Elisabeth (Betty) Kelly Carson, age 92, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma died peacefully on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Epworth Villa after a brief illness. Betty was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 14, 1924 to Emily Bush Kelly and Edward S. Kelly and lived on Collier Road and attended Rivers Elementary in Atlanta and North Atlanta High School in Buckhead and was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Sociology. Betty was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and continued as an active member all of her adult life. After graduation Betty went to work for the Retail Credit Company, which was renamed Equifax, in the Atlanta home office where she met Royal W. Carson, Jr. whom she would marry on July 3, 1947 at Christ the King Catholic Church on Peachtree Road in Atlanta. This was the first intra-company marriage for Equifax and the company paid for their honeymoon in New Orleans. The couple ultimately settled in Oklahoma City in 1952. She dedicated her life to her family, friends and faith. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years, Royal W. Carson, Jr. and her daughter, Lauren Elizabeth (Liz) Carson. She is survived by her two sons, Royal W. Carson, III of Dallas and Spence M. Carson of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by her two grandchildren who she loved dearly, Royal C. Carson, IV of Denver, Colorado and Catherine B. Carson of Tucson, Arizona. Betty was extremely active as a volunteer of 25 years at Mercy Hospital, an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church & School and an active member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher. She loved playing tennis and bridge with her friends and was able to travel the world up to just a few years ago. She loved the University of Oklahoma Football team and was an avid OKC Thunder fan. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Epworth Villa for all of their love and attention. The family will be receiving visitors on Friday, October 21, 2016 beginning at 9:30 am at Christ the King Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am at Christ the King Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks your support of A Chance to Change Foundation of Oklahoma City.
