Dr. Eric James Knudtson, aged 46, died in his home on July 29th, 2016. Eric is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Julie, and his two daughters, Claire and Margot of the home.
Dr. Knudtson was a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist with Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma since 2003. He served there as an Associate Professor and Fellowship Director. During this time, Eric mentored and taught hundreds of medical students throughout his tenure, earning him the Faculty Teacher Award in both 2011 and 2013. In addition, Eric earned a master's degree in Public Health in 2015. He cared passionately for his patients and he worked tirelessly to raise the quality of care for all women and children. Eric published extensively in journals, was a sought after speaker in his field, and he conducted numerous research projects.
Eric was a private and humble man. Few realized the extent of his accomplishments. Eric had a selfless nature. For example, he received the Undaunted Courage Award from OUHSC Trauma Services in 2015. This award recognized Eric for his heroic actions saving a woman's life by disarming a knife-wielding man.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Julie and their two girls. Julie and Eric met during college at the University of Kansas and they had made a happy home with their daughters in Oklahoma City. Both their girls attend Christ the King Catholic School and are active members of their school community.
Eric is also survived by his father, Dr. David Knudtson of Wichita, KS; sister Pam Persons (Steve) of Towanda, KS; sister Karen Seiler (Kent) of Garden Plain, KS; brother Dr. John Knudtson (Peggy) of Wichita, KS and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Knudtson and nephew Daniel Persons.
Services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at 10am. Christ the King is located at 8805 Dorset Drive, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A reception at the church will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dr. Knudtson's name may be made to the March of Dimes or to the charity of your choosing.
