Garet "Erik" Van De Steeg was born On September 3, 1967 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Garet Edward Van De Steeg and Dorothy Van De Steeg. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Garet Edward Van De Steeg on Octoer 9, 2011. He is survived by his mother Dorothy Van De Steeg of Edmond, OK, his younger brother Leigh Van De Steeg, sister-in-law Karen Van De Steeg, and niece Ruby Leigh Van De Steeg all from Luther, OK. and the love of his life, Roxanne McCain, Quapaw, OK. He will be mourned by all who knew and loved him.
Erik attended OU and OCU to earn his Bachelors degree. He relied heavily on his beloved father's advice starting his first business and always credited his Dad for starting him out right in life and in business. Erik was thankful to his mother and father for instilling in him, the moral values he lived by and the honesty that he learned from them by example growing up.
Erik owned several businesses including his general contracting company, Van De Steeg & Associates, Inc, Edmond Glass, Inc., and Chateau Fine Homes. He was an avid hunter, gun collector and lover of all things outdoors. He and Roxanne spent as much time as possible at their getaway home at Grand Lake jet skiing, boating and just treasuring their time together eating ice cream. They spent every opportunity traveling to Cozumel and loved their time scuba diving for treasures at the bottom of the sea, and recording that part of their life in pictures and videos to carry the experience home to share memories of the last trip … in anticipation of the next trip.
Everyone who knew or did business with Erik liked and respected him. He was known for his upbeat attitude, the big smile that was always on his face and his heartfelt laughter. Everyone knew he loved the art of negotiating a good price for a premium product and would except nothing less. The way he ran his company was unique and all who worked for him, felt like they were family and the love and loyalty extended both ways.
Van De Steeg & Associates, Inc will continue with the legacy of its beloved founder and maintain the same standard of business excellence that Erik was known for. His employees are as dedicated to the standard of service as ever.
The memorial service will be held Monday May 7th at 2 PM at Smith & Kernke at 14624 N May Ave Oklahoma City, OK. 73134. His closest friends will share their fondest memories of Erik and there will be a reception following the service to greet his family and work family.
With heavy hearts and through many tears, we say goodbye to our beloved Erik.
