Eugenia (Jean) Mary Liss
Born in Chicago, IL at home on December 14, 1921. She was one of four children of Louis and Stephania Kobos: Eugenia, Roman, Henry and Helen. All siblings preceded her in death.
Jean met her husband, John at a dance and were married on June 24, 1944. They were married for 39 years before John died in 1983.
Jean had three children, Kenneth, David and Joan. Kenneth and David preceded her in death.
Jean was a homemaker and enjoyed working as a librarian at Belle Isle Library for a number of years. She was a volunteer at Deaconess Hospital as well; usually working in the library, researching medical journals for the doctors on the hospital staff…long before the internet.
Jean enjoyed sewing, needlework, painting and playing bridge. She was in several bridge clubs and played master points bridge. She enjoyed painting even into her later years as a resident at Quail Ridge Assisted living center.
Jean was a devout Catholic. Her faith was an important part of her life.
Jean's youngest child, Joan, resides in Broken Arrow, OK with her husband, Richard Balcerak. Jean loved her two grandchildren, Matthew, who resides in Chengdu, China and Lauren, who resides in Seattle, Washington.
Jean was an avid fisherwoman who spent many days travelling with her son David, fishing in many of this country's fresh water lakes and streams. During a family get together for Matthew's First Communion, she decided to try her luck fishing in Joan and Richard's neighbor's pond. While the rest of the family was preparing lunch, she hooked a large catfish. So large, the catfish pulled her into the pond. Responding to her screams, the family immediately tried to get Jean out of the pond. She refused help and insisted on getting the pole to land this catfish.
She did, but to her disappointment, the neighbor did not let her keep her catch. She had to release her prize back into the pond.
Jean was always well dressed prior to leaving the house, even just to go out shopping. Woe to anyone, including family, if Jean walked out of the house without first applying lipstick.
