Evelyn Gray

Evelyn Ruth Spradlin Gray of Edmond passed away March 31, 2025 following a brief illness. She was born December 31, 1944 in Guymon, Oklahoma to William and Hazel Spradlin. Evelyn spent her life in service to others. She cherished the 35 years spent as an Elementary School Teacher. Summers during school break for numerous years were spent helping her father on the farm during wheat harvest. Following retirement, Evelyn enjoyed her time most when spent with lifelong friends or family; laughter and love being the mainstays at every gathering or get together. She was a consummate gift giver. Evelyn’s gifts were always thoughtful, heartfelt and the perfect “something” for the lucky recipient. She also opened her home and dedicated her time to almost every immediate family member at different stages of need through the years. Not only was Evelyn known as a gift giver she was also the caregiver to many. As the middle child of five, Evelyn was always the peacemaker; throughout her life she was never overheard speaking an unkind word. Patience and quick wit were her virtues.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Hazel; two brothers, Steve and Ed; and two nephews, Scott and Grant. She is survived by her beloved son, Zac Gray; granddaughter, Maidie; sister, LaVonne Selph; brother, Denny; cherished nieces and nephews, Aaron, Julia, Perry and Megan; bonus “adopted” son, Andrew Dudderar; bonus grandson that Evelyn became 2nd grandmother to, Chad; Her constant companion in later years and former husband, Dale; as well as numerous extended family and countless friends who will all miss her deeply.

Evelyn’s life was an example of the beauty of having a tight knit family. Her generous spirit and compassionate devotion will forever be remembered.
