Fahim George Ghata, son of George and Leilah Ghata, was born on June 15th, 1956 and baptized into the Church on July 6th, 1956, in Homs, Syria. He completed two engineering degrees and married his love of forty years, Vanda, on July 31st, 1980. He and his wife immigrated to Oklahoma City shortly after and had four wonderful sons. While studying civil engineering at the University of Oklahoma, he worked for Sinclair Oil Company for nearly 17 years. With his extraordinary skills and love of giving joy to others, he built a restaurant in El Reno, Oklahoma, where he and Vanda created heart-warming dishes fused from Mediterranean cuisine and American staples. Throughout his life, he served behind the iconostasis, first overseas to the Bishop of Homs and then here at St. Elijah where he was ordained a subdeacon. He was a man of strength, wisdom, faith, and love. He loved God, the Church and his family above all else. Fahim George Ghata fell asleep in the Lord on July 8th, 2020. He will be dearly missed. May his memory be eternal!
