Florence Ann Hodur's life of service to her family, her church and her community ended on Saturday, August 4, 2012. A first-generation American, she was born on August 9, 1919, to Anna and Frank Krafczyk in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Kelly High School in 1937. Upon graduation, she went to work for the Spiegel Catalogue Company becoming a junior executive in 7 years. She married Stanley Hodur on September 30, 1944, in Chicago. They have two daughters, Rita and Bette. Upon Stan's discharge from the Army, he worked for Ford Motor Co. and then the innovative Tucker Car Co. When that company closed, he joined the Federal Government in Procurement which transferred the family to Tinker Air Force Base in 1954 – the family finding it to be much windier than "The Windy City." Stan retired in 1972. Florence became a secretary for St. Patrick Catholic Church in 1958 beginning her lifetime of service. She chaired and worked on many of the church's ministries. In 1976, she began 31 years of volunteer service at then Baptist Hospital: in the Mailroom, Surgery Waiting Room and finally the Patient Information Desk. After Stan's death in 1990, Florence increased her hours of service to the hospital and the church. Florence was always there when a family member or friend needed her time and support. Greeting her in heaven on her birthday will be her husband, Stanley, her parents, Anna and Frank and her sister and brother, Stephanie and Henry. Her legacy lives on in her daughters, Rita and Bette, and their husbands Don Hubbard and Larry Deputy; her granddaughters Sarah, Rebecca and Emmarie, and their husbands Jeffrey Hill, David Talley and Dr. Michael Bracy; and her great-grandchildren Jackson, Parker, Campbell, Davis and Ewan Hill and Nathan, Brady and Catherine Talley. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 8 at the Smith & Kernke North Chapel. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on her 93rd birthday, Thursday, August 9 in the St. Joachim Chapel at St. Ann Retirement Center, 7501 W. Britton Road. The family asks that donations be made in Florence's memory to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2121 N. Portland, Oklahoma City, OK 73107. The family is deeply grateful for the tender and compassionate care provided for Florence by the staffs of St. Ann Retirement Center and Ultimate One Home Health Care.
