Our devoted Mom, Mamo, and Matriarch peacefully passed on June 27th, 2024 joining her beloved Pete in heaven. Our hearts are hurting as we will miss her deeply, but we do not grieve without hope. We know our faith-filled Mom is celebrating in heaven today with family, friends and her Savior Jesus Christ.
Frances was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on October 19,1931. She was proud to grow up in cotton country with fond memories of her Dad’s Barber Shop and her Grandfather Adams’ Cotton Gin. She moved to Oklahoma City to major in Music at Oklahoma City University where she attended a social at Wesley United Methodist Church and met her beloved Pete, beginning a love story that spanned 56 beautiful years of marriage.
Together, she and Pete raised three boys. Frances was a steadfast, loving Mom, involved in all her children’s activities. She had a passion for fun family adventures, creating unforgettable memories during trips to Padre Island, San Francisco, Colorado and New York. In retirement, Pete & Frances enjoyed traveling all over the world. Frances was happy to extend her love and devotion to her daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Her family remembers how Mom made holidays magical, especially Christmas. She gathered her family and provided sweets of all kinds and presents galore. She loved dressing up for Halloween when the boys were young and handing out candy to the neighborhood. When the grandchildren came along, she and Pete rang in many New Year’s Eves with the grandkids including games, treasure hunts, “burning old habits” and exchanging them with the hope of the new year.
Any season was a good season in the mountains for Frances. She loved winter skiing, summer exploring and seeing the leaves change colors in the fall. Crested Butte became a gathering spot for family and friends to enjoy. All nine grandchildren learned to ski and snowboard because of annual trips to Crested Butte with Mamo & Papa Pete.
At Wesley, she was deeply involved in the church community, serving as President of the United Methodist Women (UMW), contributing to the B & F Class, playing in the bell choir and running the Nearly New Shop.
A connoisseur of Southwest art and an avid quilt collector, Frances had an eye for beauty and craftsmanship. An ardent supporter of the Sooners, she eagerly anticipated football season, attending games, hosting ATOs and throwing lively parties. She was also an active member of the OU Law Wives Club, where she formed lifelong friendships.
Mamo’s legacy of fierce love for her family, kindness, and joy will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
Frances is preceded in death by her husband Peter Boatright, parents James and Jewel Matlock and brother Jim Matlock.
Frances is survived by her sons and their wives Rex and Mary Boatright, Bart and Cathy Boatright, Todd and Geri Boatright, grandchildren Davis and Aubrey Boatright, Caleb and Lauren Scott, Bryant and Jordan Boatright, Bethany Boatright, Dustin Boatright, Meredith (Missy) Boatright, Lewis and Margeaux Boatright, Canon Boatright and Mark and Ally Boatright. Great grandchildren, Tucker, Levi, Lawson, Charley, Molly, and Sophie Scott. Numerous nieces and nephews and beloved friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Life for providing community and love for our Mamo the last six years. Should friends desire, memorial contributions be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Oklahoma City.
