Frances O'Grady

December 16, 1937 — July 10, 2024

Frances O'Grady

Frances (Fran) O’Grady, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter and Sister, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the age of 86. Fran was born December 16, 1937 in Ada, Oklahoma to parents, Carl W. Murphy and Alice (Wilson) Murphy.

Fran’s father was a REA Express agent and she lived in several communities growing up including Ada, OK, and Bartlesville, OK until her family ultimately settled in Clinton, OK where she graduated High School in 1956.

Fran had several jobs as an adult which mostly included helping her husband with his business. Her ultimate calling was being a full-time Homemaker and Mother. She put in a lot of effort and took great pride in raising her 3 sons and staying involved in her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s lives.

After marrying Jim O’Grady, the family moved to Muleshoe, TX from 1966-1997, where they raised their boys. They then moved to Amarillo, TX in  1997 after her husband retired so they could stay closer to their children and grandchildren. In 2006, they moved to Seminole, OK following their children and grandchildren once more until her husband passed away in 2008. She then moved to Ada, OK in 2012 and lived independently until her brief hospitalization and death.

Everywhere Fran went she made friends. She always was surrounded by friends in her community where she loved to play cards, board games and just spend time socializing with them. Fran was not afraid to talk to anyone about anything. She would talk to people in the checkout lane at the store, standing behind her at the Post Office, and she always became close friends with any neighbor who would stand still long enough to let her tell them about her family.

Fran was dedicated to her faith and the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Even as her health was failing, she would always make sure she watched several SDA programs on Direct TV from Loma-Linda University every Saturday. Even with limited finances she made sure she sent her monthly Tithe in to the SDA Conference Headquarters in Texas. She always pointed out that she “specified” to them that she wanted her Tithe directed to their Children’s Program as she felt that was where it would best be used. The family is sure that she would be pleased if any memorials were directed to the Children’s program of your choosing in her name.

Fran was preceded in death by her husband James O’Grady, her father and mother (Carl W. & Alice Murphy), her two brothers (Carl Douglas and Orvel W. Murphy), and her sister Careen Murphy (age 11). She is survived by her twin sister (Frankie Hawkins, Midwest City, OK), her three sons and wives; Stephen and Diane O’Grady (Ada/Weatherford, OK), Michael and Shelly O’Grady (Ada, OK), and Patrick and Tracy O’Grady (Los Alomas, NM), and 16 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Frances was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was always a source of strength and stability for the family. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for all her stories and sayings.
