G. (George) Bolar Garrison, M.D., died at home in Oklahoma City, May 11, 2016. He was born to Anna and George Garrison, M.D., in Oklahoma City on October 18, 1929. He was raised in Oklahoma City, graduating from Classen High School in 1947. He received his undergraduate degree in 1950 and his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1955 from the University of Oklahoma. He did his internship and residency at Iowa University. He was commissioned in ROTC at OU and served 2 years in the Air Force, stationed at Lowery Air Force Base in Denver, CO, and returned to Oklahoma City to resume private practice in medicine and spent 45 years in Anesthesiology at Integris Baptist Memorial Hospital, retiring from there.
Bolar served as past President of The Academy of Medicine, President of the Oklahoma County Medical Association, the Central Oklahoma Opera League and the English Speaking Union. He was a member of Quail Creek Country Club, Listeners Book Club and Lions Paw Men's Club. He was an active member of All Souls Episcopal Church where he served as usher for many years and was a member of the Board of Trustees and Planning Committee for Canterbury Town Center, A Christian Community, now known as The Fountains of Canterbury in Oklahoma City, which was built in 1989 by The Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma. He was also part of a long time group of friends, ROMEO (retired old men eating out), in Oklahoma City.
Bolar was a musician. While at OU he played the clarinet in the OU Band, later known as THE PRIDE, and after graduation he played and marched in the OU Pride Alumna Band during homecoming football games each year for many years, becoming the oldest Pride marching member. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at OU and continued active alumni status with ATO for the rest of his life.
He is survived by Lucile, his wife of 30 years of the home, children: Laura Russell, Lesley Garrison, Lynn Garrison, Leigh Garrison and husband Dale Gardner, Jon Garrison and wife Kim, step-children, John Hummel and wife Denise, Debra and Silverio Garcia, Nancy and Dickie Melton, 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at All Souls Episcopal Church, Monday, May 16, 2016, at 11:00AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
