Gary Gilbert 'Dr. Gary Roberts' Roberts

Devoted husband and father, Dr. Gary Roberts passed away on March 16, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by family in the home he loved. He will be remembered as a man of integrity and quick wit. Gary was born on December 24, 1940, the only son of Gilbert (Gib) Edward Roberts and Marjorie Pauline Brown Roberts. He grew up in Cabool, Missouri and graduated from Cabool High School in 1958. As a child Gary participated in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, band and debate. He graduated from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri 1962 and was a proud member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. After college, Gary entered the University of Louisville School of Medicine, graduated in 1966, followed by an internship at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas from 1966 to 1967. He served as a physician in the U.S. Navy until 1969. During his internship he met Eloise Winter, and they were married in Dallas in October, 1968, when he returned from Pacific duty. Upon the completion of his Radiology residency at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas in 1973, he joined Radiology Associates in Oklahoma City. Gary enjoyed all aspects of Radiology Associates, especially teaching the residents and assisting doctors and patients. In 1980, Gary was instrumental in establishing the first MRI facility in Oklahoma City forming a joint venture between Radiology Associates and Baptist Hospital. During Gary's distinguished career he was a member of the American Board of Radiology, President of the Baptist Medical Staff, member of the Credentials Committee, President of Radiology Associates, Chairman of the Baptist Department of Radiology, and served on the Baptist Foundation Board. He worked there until his retirement in June 2007. Gary had several passions in life; cooking, spending time in the yard, art, reading, business and especially golf. One could find Gary on the golf course at Quail Creek Country Club on Thursdays and Saturdays with a group of life long friends. Gary and Ellie enjoyed traveling, especially to Beaver Creek and Scottsdale, and playing golf. They were fortunate enough to travel world wide with a special group of Radiology friends. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Ellie, daughter Peyton Woodyard and husband, Bill, Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter Devon Nelson and husband, Brad, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Ellie and Helen Woodyard, and Finley and Alexander Nelson.
